Poetry of Heart
A Thousand Words
Tell me not a thousand words,
Lingering and long,
Meant to win my heart,
With the sweetness of their song.

For not even a thousand words
Could recommend the day,
Fill the hours and the weeks,
In what they do portray.

Give me shorter words instead,
And like sun on a cloudy day,
They shall make more impression
Does your soul mean all you say.

A brief speech is better,
Does it recommend your heart to mine,
By far to outweigh the importance
Of longer words refined.

No, not even a thousand words
Can do more than take up space,
When only three or four perhaps,
To my heart would secure a place.
